What Security Do I Need For My Car ?
There are many different kinds of electronic security available for vehicles. Broadly speaking this can be either peace of mind or insurance (Thatcham) approved. They systems can be installed into your car, van, motorcycle, lorry even caravan etc.
Most UK specification passenger vehicles sold after 1996 were fitted at factory with a Thatcham catagory 2 insurance approved immobiliser. This system prevents the car from starting without the ignition key as it holds the unique chip (transponder), however very few offer security by means of an alarm system.
Touch key and transponder Thatcham catagory 2 insurance approved immobilisers can be fitted to any vehicle that doesn't have an immobiliser fitted, stopping it from being started without this additional "key".
Alarms provide an audible and visual warning if your car is tampered with. Again many types of makes & models are available. Thatcham catagory 2 to1 insurance approved alarms utilise the car's existing cat 2 immobiliser and together meet the full Thatcham catagory 1 alarm system specification. For vehicles with no factory security we have protection for those too.
